Front elevation of an open Alucent rail system: two slim aluminium uprights carrying a hanging rail of clothes, three open shelves below and a top shelf holding folded boxes, with no doors
Drawn to scale from the real dimensions, not photographed — so a 1800 mm bank genuinely looks wider here than a 600 mm one. Why we draw the range.

Openwork Rail System

No doors. Just the frame and the rail.

A door is roughly a third of the cost of a wardrobe and, in a walk-in or a dedicated dressing corner, it is a third you do not need — the room is already the door. Openwork is the Vitrine frame without panels: uprights, a rail, adjustable shelves, and an optional shelf over the top. It goes up in twenty minutes, it takes two wall fixings per upright rather than a full anti-tip installation, and it can be extended later by buying another bay and a connector.

About the Openwork

Can I add doors to it later?

Not to Openwork itself. The uprights are a lighter section without the hinge boss the panelled products carry, so retrofitting doors is not a kit we sell — a door hung on this frame would sag at the top hinge within a year and we will not ship something we expect to fail. If there is any real chance you will want doors, start with the Cabin or the Vitrine, where the option stays open indefinitely.

Will it hold up without being fixed to the wall?

Freestanding is fine and the feet are supplied for it, but fix it to the wall if you can. An open rail loaded unevenly — everything hung at one end, nothing at the other — develops a real tipping moment, and unlike a panelled wardrobe there is no back to stiffen the frame. Two fixings per upright into a masonry wall takes ten minutes and is what we recommend in any room a child uses.

Is this dusty in an open room?

Yes, and it is the honest downside. Clothes on an open rail collect dust in a way clothes behind a door do not, particularly in a ground-floor or road-facing Singapore flat with windows open. If the rail lives inside a walk-in or a closed dressing room it barely matters. In a bedroom that is otherwise open, take the doors.
